Jammed brew unit

A jammed brew unit is the single most common fault in Saeco and Philips machines. The mechanism stops mid-travel, the machine refuses to brew and shows an error. Reconditioning costs PLN 90–120 and virtually always solves it — replacing the whole assembly is rarely necessary.

Most likely causes

  1. Dried coffee residue on the mechanism guides

    most common

We fix this with: Brew unit reconditioning 90–120 PLN

  2. Worn or hardened seals binding the piston travel

    common

We fix this with: Brew unit seal replacement 50 PLN

  3. Moving parts left unlubricated after years of use

    common

We fix this with: Periodic service 450 PLN

Check this yourself first

Some faults you can clear yourself. If none of this helps, we know where to look.

  1. Switch the machine off and wait a minute — some models reset the mechanism position
  2. Remove the brew unit and check it moves freely by hand
  3. Rinse it in warm water, without detergent, and let it dry
  4. Do not force it — a snapped guide means replacing the whole assembly
