Descaling means running an acid solution through the water circuit to dissolve calcium deposits. The menu programme is enough if you run it regularly — every two to three months on hard water. If the machine has gone years without descaling, the menu programme usually will not be enough.

UpdatedJammed brew unit — what you can do yourself
A jammed brew unit is the most common fault in Saeco and Philips machines. Before sending it in, try switching the machine off for a minute, removing the brew unit and rinsing it in warm water. In many cases that is enough. If the mechanism does not move freely by hand, it needs reconditioning at PLN 90–120.

An automatic machine needs a technical service every 10–12 months with daily use. The service costs PLN 450 and covers seal replacement, lubrication, circuit cleaning and pressure checks. That is a fraction of the cost of the breakdown it prevents.
